Ratings for the final round of Sunday’s Masters on CBS fell about 11% despite Sergio Garcia claiming his first major title via a one-hole playoff.
The broadcast earned a 7.6 rating with a 17 share, CBS announced on Monday. While the share that measures the percentage of televisions tuned to a specific channel were unchanged, last year’s final round drew an 8.5 rating.
It’s easy to see how that happened, although the reasons — like cord-cutting or people enjoying the spring weather — weren’t as easy to determine. There were 9% fewer people watching TV overall, known as homes using television (HUT), while the Masters aired Sunday.
The ratings, however, still far outpaced those posted by last year’s broadcasts of the U.S. Open on Fox (3.8), British Open on NBC (3.3) and PGA Championship on CBS (3.4)
