FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — One day after suffering an injury scare in practice, New England Patriots receiver Julian Edelman returned to the field.
Arguably the top slot receiver in the NFL, Edelman was absent for the initial portion of Wednesday’s training camp practice but later jogged onto the field and joined his teammates. He went through individual drills but stayed to the side during team drills in the morning session.
“It was good,” quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo said during a post-practice press conference.
“He hasn’t been out there as much as everyone would hope. But he came out here and it was good to see him running around. Getting him back out there is always nice.”
The Patriots and the New Orleans Saints meet in their preseason opener Thursday night. The teams practiced jointly Wednesday in pads, helmets, and shorts.
Edelman appeared to injure his left foot in Tuesday’s joint session with the Saints and left the field under his own power before being evaluated by trainers on a cart.
