NORTH PALM BEACH, Fla. — Jack Nicklaus, history’s greatest golfer, says he isn’t so great anymore.
“People have always wanted to play golf like I do,” he says, laughing. “Now they can.”
Nicklaus, 76, often plays tennis on the finely manicured grass courts adjacent to his house, so nice that Serena and Venus Williams sometimes play there to get ready for Wimbledon.
“I’m decent at tennis,” Nicklaus tells USA TODAY Sports.
Nicklaus doesn’t watch much golf anymore — “I usually have it on, but never watch it,” he says — but found himself enthralled by the British Open duel won by Henrik Stenson over Phil Mickelson.
“They both started out so well that I started watching it and I never missed a shot,” Nicklaus says. “I thought Mickelson played one of the great rounds of golf I’ve ever seen. But Stenson played a better one. I dropped Henrik a note this morning. And I told him, ‘Phil played…
