NHL potential unrestricted free agents: Ranking the top 25 players in the marketplace

When defenseman Erik Karlsson opted to re-sign with the San Jose Sharks, it removed a significant amount of pizzazz from this year’s free-agent class.

He was atop potential free agent lists entering this summer.    

But Christmas will still be coming on July 1 for several NHL teams when free agency opens. Some general managers will get what they wanted to strengthen their teams heading into the 2019-20 season.

Here is USA TODAY Sports’ Top 25 available free agents:

1. Artemi Panarin, right wing, Columbus Blue Jackets: He is the most dangerous offensive player among potential unrestricted free agents. He has 116 goals in his first four NHL seasons.
