Players at Wimbledon berate chair umpires

WIMBLEDON, England — It was a very bad day to be an official at Wimbledon.

Two chair umpires were berated by separate players over issues on court at Wimbledon, with Viktor Troicki, the Serbian, telling chair umpire Damiano Torella he was “an idiot” and “the worst umpire ever.”

Earlier, Gilles Simon had threatened to “sue everyone in the stadium” when officials had him and Grigor Dimitrov continue playing.

“I’m (upset), yes,” Simon, the Frenchman, told reporters. “I’m (upset) because I want to destroy him. That’s how it is. It is just not possible to hear it on the tennis court.”

Simon, who lost to Dimitrov, said that he worried for he and his opponent’s safely on a day that included spitting rain. When officials had them continue play, he said, the supervisor told him the grass was…
