U.S. Open: Key story lines as field narrows

Tennis Channel recaps the day’s action at the U.S. Open, where Serena and Venus Williams, Simona Halep, Any Murray and Stan Wawrinka won with ease in the third round.

NEW YORK — On Day 7 of the U.S. Open, the tournament switches gears from the early rounds to the late ones, with eight fourth-round matches slated in singles for both Sunday and Monday.

But what went down during Week 1? Here, a recount of the nine biggest story lines on and off the court at Flushing Meadows before we commence the business end of the tournament at the year’s final Grand Slam.

Serena soaring  and setting records

At this point in her career, Serena Williams breaks records at seemingly every event she enters. This U.S. Open has been no different. The world No. 1 hit 307 match wins at the majors to move past Martina Navratilova (306) and tie Roger Federer for the most ever.
