TAMPA, Fla. — Nashville SC goalkeeper Joe Willis had just one week in Nashville to settle in before leaving for preseason camp. The former Houston Dynamo player spent it setting up his new house and exploring the Smoky Mountains. 

Willis and his wife, Katy, explored Warner Park and Radnor Lake. He wasn’t worrying about the team’s future home, even as stadium negotiations worsened. The nine-year MLS veteran felt the deal to build a new soccer stadium was inevitable after an agreement was announced last week.

“In the back of my mind, I always knew the stadium deal would get done,” Willis said Monday. “I think people were getting worried and getting antsy seeing news and rumors that maybe MLS would take the team away. But (us being) this close to the beginning of the season — with a short-term deal in place — that was never a worry for me.”
