Will Donald Trump host another PGA Tour event?

DORAL, Fla. — At 1:20 p.m. Sunday, Donald Trump’s helicopter landed on the adjoining Red Course at Trump National Doral and the GOP presidential candidate quickly was on the first tee of the Blue Monster shaking hands with players as they began the final round of the World Golf Championships-Cadillac Championship.

It might be the last time Trump has a chance to do that.

For one thing, he might be the president of the United States a year from now. For another, there might not be a golf tournament at Trump International Doral a year from now.

Cadillac is in its last year as title sponsor of the WGC event and likely won’t extend the contract. That means the PGA Tour has to find a sponsor to pony up nearly $10 million a year to become title sponsor.

Trump signed a 10-year extension in 2013 to host the tournament. But there is a provision in the contract that would allow a new sponsor to take the tournament elsewhere. A PGA Tour event has been played at Doral every year since 1962.
