PYEONGCHANG, South Korea — On Day 1 of the Winter Olympics, the U.S. team was shut out of the medals, but it wasn’t so surprising.
Medals were awarded in biathlon, cross-country skiing, speedskating, short-track speedskating and ski jumping. Cross-country skier Jessie Diggins had the top performance in Saturday’s medal events for the U.S. team, finishing fifth in the 15K skiathlon. That’s the best result at an Olympics by an American woman in the sport. In short-track speedskating, no American men reached the final in the 1,500.
